Bill Gates Now Owns More Farmland in America than Anyone Else
Bill Gates now owns 242,000 acres of farmland.
That’s over 378 square miles.
For comparison, that’s more land than some countries.
Singapore is 280 square miles. Grenada is 133 square miles. Bahrain is 300 square miles.
You get the point.
To give you an even more relatable approximation, Manhattan is 22.8 square miles.
And Gates owns another 27,000 acres of other land across 19 states.
The biggest areas of Gates’ land holdings are in Louisiana and Arkansas. He owns 69,071 acres in Louisiana and 47,927 acres in Arkansas.
He also bought a 14,500-acre tract in the Horse Heaven Hills region of Washington for nearly $171 million.
Gates’s current net worth is an estimated $132 billion, so he bought that massive estate with the equivalent of pocket change to most people.
The Microsoft founder also holds significant farmland acreage in California, Illinois, and Iowa, all through a company called Cascade Investment.
Gates has not said what his plans are for his country sized real estate holdings, so we are going to assume he has a Lex Luthor type plan to destroy competing farm land and make his holdings more valuable.
Gates is said to be the third richest person in the world behind Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla founder Elon Musk, who both sit around $185 billion.
By destroying competing farms, Gates could definitely make his land more valuable and reclaim the top spot.
For people with no sense of humor, that is definitely a joke and nobody thinks Gates is going to destroy any farms. Probably.
