Kyrie Irving is Back and Already Cooking for Brooklyn — But Cleveland Torched the Nets
Kyrie Irving took some time off from the Nets for undisclosed “personal reasons.”
He was fined nearly a million dollars for doing so after video of him at a party in Toronto surfaced.
Now Kyrie is back.
And he’s already cooking.
In this double overtime classic, Kyrie went off with 37 points, his teammate Kevin Durant had 38, and the newest member of the Nets, James Harden, had a triple double.
But if you watch the game, you’ll see something strange.
Brooklyn lost the game.
Despite Kyrie and KD and Harden all playing well this new superteam lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers by 12 in double overtime.
How?
Well, a few things happened here.
First off, Cavs guard Collin Sexton had himself a game. He went off for 45 points, including 20 STRAIGHT in overtime and double OT.
Second, two of the players traded by the Nets for Harden, Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince, are now on Cleveland. And you can tell they really wanted to get the W in this revenge game.
Third, the Nets weaknesses after the trade were on full display here. The Nets can score all day with KD and Harden and Kyrie and Joe Harris, but who is locking down the other team on defense? Harden and KD can play D, but that defense is suspect.
The Nets also have a thin bench after trading so many quality players to get Harden.
But don’t fret Brooklyn fans.
Buyout SZN is coming soon, and you can bet any vets released will have an eye on the playing time available in Brooklyn.
Don’t be surprised if LeBron and the Lakers are facing off with Brooklyn in the Finals real soon.
Bron knows it too.
The popcorn is ready.
