The 5 Worst Sports Injuries of All Time
Sports are the greatest escape.
Just total fun - most of the time.
Sometimes, tragedy strikes. These are the worst sports injuries of all time.
5. Robert Griffin III
Griffin was on his way to being an NFL superstar before this injury in the playoffs.
Many blamed his coach Mike Shanahan for allowing Griffin to play in the game when Griffin already had prior injuries.
Griffin was never quite the same after this, and suffered another subsequent injury that may have stemmed from this play.
4. Willis McGahee
McGahee was a star running back for the University of Miami before this injury during the title game against Ohio State.
Some say the OSU player that hit McGahee made a dirty play that cost McGahee big. You be the judge.
McGahee went from being a surefire top 5 NFL pick to surprising many by still getting selected late in the first round after this injury.
3. Shaun Livingston
Livingston was the 4th pick in the 2004 NBA draft. His career got off to a promising start before this knee injury in his third season.
Livingston ultimately became an NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors, but he didn’t make a significant contribution in the NBA after this injury until his 2013 season with the Brooklyn Nets.
2. Tyrone Prothro
Prothro was a legendary college wide receiver that never got to play a down in the NFL.
This injury suffered while Prothro was playing for Alabama highlighted for many the issues with college not paying or insuring student athletes.
1. Joe Theismann
Theissman was an All-Pro quarterback having a Hall of Fame career….until this happened.
On November 18, 1985, Theismann was sacked by Lawrence Taylor. The play fractured bones in his right leg, and Theissman never played again.
Theismann never blamed Lawrence Taylor for the injury. Taylor apologized to Theismann many times, but the quarterback said that Taylor was just doing his job.
