Park Workers Found a 9-Pound Goldfish in a Lake

Parks and recreation workers in South Carolina found this massive goldfish during a routine water quality test at a small lake.

This 9-pound goldfish was about 15 inches long. The crew caught it in the murky waters of Oak Grove Lake in South Carolina.

The average weight for a pet goldfish is .2 to .6 pounds, but they can get over 5 pounds in the wild. The average length is 4.7 to 16.1 inches.

Apparently goldfish grow to the size of their environment, so they can get much bigger in a lake than in your house.

The goldfish jumped out of the water while workers were electrofishing, which lightly shocks the fish and forces them to float to the surface of the water so surveyors can check for any signs indicating unhealthy water.

They must be putting something good in the water out in South Carolina for a dang goldfish to get so big!
