The NBA Is Looking At Selling Two New Teams for $2.5 Billion Each, Seattle Might be First
Looks like the NBA might be getting two new teams.
ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst has said that “within the league office, sources said officials have floated the price tag of $2.5 billion each for two expansion teams in the near future.”
That would mean each team’s owners get about $160 million. The owners might be very interested in such a move after losing out on live attendance revenue streams for almost a year now.
The Utah Jazz were sold in October for $1.66 billion to tech billionaire Ryan Smith. New teams in larger markets like Seattle might go for even more money, is the NBA’s thinking.
Las Vegas is another major market with no NBA team, and now that they have an NFL and NHL franchise, an NBA team is likely next for Sin City.
Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan said she is “pretty optimistic” about the Sonics returning to the NBA after speaking with NBA commissioner Adam Silver. The Seattle City Council approved a $700 million renovation of Key Arena, the former home of the Sonics, in 2018. The Sonics left Seattle and became the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008.
Looks like the Sonics are coming back fellas. What should Vegas name their team?
