Serena Williams Cried After Losing to Naomi Osaka When Asked About Retirement
Serena Williams is the greatest women’s tennis player of all time, with 23 major championships.
She’s also one of the most emotional players of all time.
After losing in the semifinals of the Australian Open to Naomi Osaka, Serena was asked about possibly retiring.
“If I ever say farewell,” said Williams, “I wouldn’t tell anyone.”
Williams was then asked about her unforced errors during the match, and Serena teared up and left.
Now, let’s start with the reporter’s question.
Serena just played arguably the best women’s hardcourt player in the world right now, after making it to the semifinals of a major.
By definition, Serena was one of the top 4 players in the tournament, and she fought a tough match.
The reporters that want to push the retirement question immediately after a match like that are some vultures for real, just scratching for meat they can put in a story.
Serena needs the emotional control not to break down at a reporter’s question, but the reporters asking that are bottom feeders for sure.
Anyway, Osaka is proving she might be the new tennis queen if she closes out this Australian Open and keeps winning majors like this.
An awesome match and yes, maybe a passing of the torch.
They didn’t need to rub Serena’s face in it though!
