New York City's Mayor Killed a Groundhog on Groundhog Day and Tried to Cover It Up!
Yes, this is real.
The NYC mayor killed a groundhog and then tried to cover it up so no one would hear of it.
Back in 2014, Mayor Bill DeBlasio dropped Staten Island Chuck in front of a crowd of spectators on Feb. 2, Groundhog Day.
The groundhog died of internal injuries — and then the coverup began.
Staten Island Zoo officials went to great lengths to hide the death from the public, including claiming that the groundhog had died of natural causes.
“It appears unlikely that the animal’s death is related to the events on Groundhog Day,” a zoo spokesman claimed.
The zoo gets nearly half of its $3.5 million in annual funding from the city.
When Groundhog Day rolled around again this year, the jokes started again. Of course. Because its Groundhog Day.
Speaking of the famous Bill Murray film, the real life Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter after seeing his shadow this year.
No word if anyone tried to steal the groundhog to end a 24 hour time loop.
If you didn’t know, Groundhog Day is the best movie of all time.
