The Cleveland Indians Are Changing Their Name to....Cleveland Baseball Team?
The Washington Redskins changed their name this year to the Washington Football Team, a brand that sounds like it should be sold at Baby Gap.
Now the Cleveland Indians sound like they are following suit.
The NY Times reported that two sources said the team plans on "moving forward without a replacement name then coming up with a new name in consultation with the public."
As one Washington Football Team blog site noted, this plan sounds eerily close to naming the team something as generic as Cleveland Baseball Team.
There has been a lot of controversy of changing the names of American sports teams away from Native American themed names.
The Redskins logo was actually designed by a Native American, Walter “Blackie” Wetzel, to depict a member of the Blackfeet tribe, and his son Lance said the logo evokes a sense of pride.
This is Walter Wetzel with President John F. Kennedy.
When a trademark troll bought up all the likely names the Washington Redskins might change their name to, the team settled on…Washington Football Team. LOL.
Will Cleveland go the same way? They have already dropped the Chief Wahoo logo from the team. Is their name offensive?
