A Woman Tried Pushing Out Poop and Ended Up Giving Birth
A pregnant woman rushed to the toilet to push out an “agonizing” poop - only to realize she was giving birth.
Billie Ward is British. She was told she probably wouldn’t give birth that on the day she thought she REALLY needed to go the bathroom. Because she was told she wouldn’t give birth that day, she thought her “stomach pains” were a false alarm.
"The midwife had said 'oh no, your cervix isn't favorable. You've got to shorten it and you're not going to have your baby on your due date,” said Ward. "At 6pm that night I was having period-type pains, it wasn't abnormal or anything that concerned me.”
Later that night, she thought she just needed the bathroom.
"I came downstairs at 3.45am,” she said. “I was biting down on the sofa because I could feel this pain and genuinely thought it was a poo.”
The 22-year-old tried taking a dump for an hour before calling the British equivalent of 911.
The operator told her she was most likely giving birth, which shocked Ward. Her husband Josh and her Mom had both told her they couldn’t see any signs the baby was on the way.
"By this point, no waters had broken. Every time I pushed, I thought 'I don't know what that was'. I'd never had a baby,” she said. "My mum had four C-sections so she'd never had a contraction either.”
The ambulance arrived, and they decided it was best for her to give birth where she was rather than go to the hospital.
"The woman ran up the stairs and said 'if you give one push, the baby's going to be here'. My waters didn't break,” said Ward. “The paramedic just pulled the sac away from her. Apparently, it's quite lucky to have a baby on their due date and still in their sac.”
Even though Billie Ward wasn’t planning on a home birth, she enjoyed it so much she wants to do it again.
"It was the most amazing experience of my life - so much so I'm planning a second home birth. It's a good story to tell when Arete's older,” she said.
If Ward were American, she would have won the lottery in a sense — a hospital birth typically costs $5,000 – $11,000!
