More Free Money? House Approves $2000 in Coronavirus Relief for Americans
It looked like Congress was pinching pennies and sending out $600 with the new coronavirus relief bill, but now that $600 might more than triple.
After negotiations between President Trump and Congress, the House of Representatives has approved an amendment to the recent coronavirus relief bill that would now give American $2,000 instead of $600.
If you got $1200 when Congress gave out coronavirus relief in the middle of 2020, you would now get another $2,000 — if the Senate approves.
Only the Senate stands in the way now between most Americans getting a couple racks of relief.
Congress originally agreed to a $900 billion coronavirus relief package on Sunday, December 20.
That previously meant only a $600 direct stimulus payment to most Americans and a temporary $300 per week supplemental jobless benefit for people who lost their jobs.
The $900 billion deal will also give $82 billion for colleges and schools. Another $15 billion is going to live venues, independent movie theaters, and cultural institutions. U.S. airlines are getting $15 billion, and there are billions being given out to many other groups as well.
The first coronavirus stimulus deal was a total $1.8 trillion in aid, so this deal was originally half of the previous deal.
The new stimulus deal would help a lot of people pay rent, or even buy a car.
