She Gave Her College Savings to Her Mom to Pay Rent and the Internet Gave Her $80,000
A Houston high school senior made national headlines after she gave her entire college savings to help pay for her mom's rent.
Alondra Carmona put her Ivy League plan on hold after her mom told her she's been unemployed for three months and is behind on rent.
Carmona decided to give her mom all of the money she saved for college. She also created a GoFundMe to help. Local news picked up the story, and then the donations of over $80,000 came pouring in.
"It feels like a dream," she said.
The owner of a tent and event company, Darren Randle, saw Carmona's story and offered to throw her a graduation party.
"As soon as I read it, I thought, 'How can I help? What can I do?' She shouldn't be having to feel this way," said Randle.
This type of story proves a couple things — one being that helping people in need can be the best way to receive.
It also proves you can do better for yourself not going to college!
We kid, we kid. Kind of.
