He Has to Pay $30 Million to Investors That Paid Him An Advance When He Was 18

Fernando Tatís Jr. recently agreed to a record-setting 14-year contract with the San Diego Padres worth a whopping $340 million.

But Tatis won’t be getting all that money.

When Tatis was 18 years old, he signed a deal with “Big League Advance,” a firm that invests in young athletes. For an estimated $337,000, Tatis agreed to give up 8% of his future earnings.

Now that Tatis signed his huge new deal, he will have to pay around $30 million!

Like a student loan from hell!

“When we signed him he wasn’t considered a Top 40 prospect,” Big League Advance CEO Michael Schwimer said about Tatis. “At the time, talking to investors, the amount of money we were offering him was a sizable portion of our bankroll. But we trusted the model.”

Investors in Big League Advance include Cleveland Browns executive Paul DePodesta and Marvin Bush, the son of the late President George H.W. Bush.

After taxes and paying his agent and these investors, Tatis will only see a fraction of the huge deal he signed, but that’s the breaks with taking a risk!

And Tatis ultimately bet against himself.

Always bet on yourself men.
