New Apple Products Coming Out This Year & Beyond
Coming this Fall in 2019
-Apple TV+
Cable TV is bleeding out. The only reason people still have it is either they’re old or just for sports, or both. Streaming services like Netflix are amazing because of all the great content, no commercials and you don’t get a $100+ bill at the end of the month. But now with every company and their mother having their own streaming platform, like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, Playstation, YouTube, and Disney, if you want them all you’re gonna be paying more than cable. Plus some of them even have ads! I’m talking about you Hulu. So, it’s to no one’s surprise that Apple spent a couple billion dollars and is coming out with their content streaming service called Apple TV+. They already have the platform, which is Apple TV, so now they just need their own shows. Every series, movie or documentary coming out on Apple TV+ will be completely original. The service will be dropping on November 1st and it already has an impressive lineup. Their flagship series is called The Morning Show, which stars Steve Carell, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Anniston. Not bad landing three huge stars Apple. And You guessed it, it’s about the in’s and out’s of Morning TV News shows. There will also be a lot more great original content and for just $5 a month (you get a 7 day free trial) that’s a pretty fair price. Don’t worry you don’t need Apple TV to watch these shows. You can download the app on your Roku or Fire TV. It can also be dowloaded on smart tv’s like Samsung, Sony, LG and Vizo.
-Apple Tag
There’s are a number of rumors and clues that Apple is coming out with a little tracker device you can put on any object (keys, wallet, kids, etc) and when you lose it you can track it using your other apple devices. This is just like the device called Tile except Apple might be calling it 'Apple Tag.’ The reason people think this is happening is because those who have seen an internal build of iOS 13, which has features and updates not visible to the public, has reported to MacRumors that there’s going to be a new update for the app “Find My iPhone” that’s going to be just called “Find My.” It’s going to combine the two apps Find My iPhone and Find My Friends into one. There’s three categories in this new Find My app; People, Devices and Items. People and Devices are for finding iPhones and Apple products but the new ‘items’ pane is most likely for a tracker device. Further rumors reportedly say that people might be able to see their lost devices in Apple’s augmented reality head set scheduled to launch in 2020. But we’ll talk more about that later.
Coming Later in 2019
-Apple Pro Display XDR
The Apple Pro Display XDR is a new computer monitor with an amazing screen. It will have a 32 inch 6k display with 1,000 nits of full screen brightness, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, 10 bit color and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It’s going to be a companion to the new Mac Pro, which coming later this year as well (but you have to buy them separately). The price for one of these puppies is $4,999, which is a ton of money for a monitor but this is a Pro product, meaning it’s made for professionals like editors or graphic designers who want all that color contrast. It has a 6k screen which has more than 20 million pixels on the screen. You don’t need that many if you just want to watch YouTube. Apple will also be selling the Pro Stand which is a stand for the XDR but it can adjust the height and the tilt of the display as well as turn the display into landscape mode or portrait mode. The Pro stand is $999. Yup, Apple products still come with Apple prices.
-Mac Pro
The new updated Mac Pro coming out this year is the latest of Apple’s Mac Pro family. These are top of the line computers only professionals would need, or rich kids whose parents don’t mind spending $6,000 for just the base model with no monitor included. This thing is a beast that can become even more of a beast. Apple designed this Mac Pro with upgrades and expansions in mind. If someone really wanted to they could spend up to $20,000 tricking this thing out. The new Mac Pro will have Xeon Processors with up to 28 cores, up to 1.5 TB capacity memory, 8 PCIe expansion slots and up to 2 Radeon Pro II Duo GPUs housed in Apple MPX Modules. If you don’t know what any on that means then you don’t need this computer. It also has its famous “lettuce design,” which people have nicknamed the “cheese grater,” for optimal airflow and a lower volume run sound.
-iPad Pro
There are rumors that there will be an upgraded version of the iPad Pro coming out this year in 2019. The iPad Pro models were first introduced in November 2015 and has had 3 generations so far. The latest being the 2018 model that did away with the home button like the iPhone X, and greatly slimmed down the bezels. Accessories for the iPad Pro include the Apple Pencil & the Smart Keyboard. Rumors of the upgraded 2019 model won’t have that much changes from the 2018 model. Apple hasn’t said much about it rather than to expect faster processors and an upgraded camera. So, it possibly could have the 3 lens camera on the back like the iPhone 11. The lenses feature the 12 megapixel ultra wide, wide and telephoto. Personally, I don’t know if I would buy a whole new tablet just for the new camera but to each their own I guess.
-MacBook Pro
Apple has already refreshed the MacBook Pro family this year but there are rumors that a new 16 inch with a 4k screen MacBook Pro could come out later this year as well. This would be a good move because all of Apple competitors have already had 4k screens for awhile now. Apple added 8th and 9th generation Intel Coffee Lake refresh processors (with up to 8 cores) in the latest upgrade of MacBook Pro, so this new 16 inch one might have those also. Or it might have the highly anticipated Apple made processor chip they have been working on, scheduled to come out later this year too. The design of the new MacBook is rumored to be very similar to the old one but with even smaller bezels around the screen. Some people are predicting that this new 16 inch screen MacBook Pro will completely replace the old 15 inch model. Apple did use to sell a 17 inch screen MacBook Pro back in 2012. The estimated price for this new MacBook Pro will be around $3,000.
Coming in 2020
-HomePod 2
Not many but a couple of rumors that Apple is working on a new HomePod (smart speaker with Siri, like Amazon Echo) has been circulating around the Tech community. The only clues we have are that Apple filed a patent of a counter top speaker that can recognize people using face ID. The same patent also described the speaker being able to recognize hand gestures too. They also filed a patent of a countertop speaker with an "emoji-based avatar that would adapt to a user's mood or actions.” That’s kind of interesting. The HomePod 2 isn’t it’s official name, some experts predict that the device will be more compact and cheaper to compete with other smart speakers, like Google Home ($129) and Amazon Echo ($99). So in keeping with Apple’s traditions, the HomePod Mini might be a possibility.
-AirPods 3
Earlier this year Apple released Air Pods 2 which featured “Hey Siri” technology, the H1 chip that made pairing twice as fast and wireless charging capabilities. But they changed nothing on the design. However, that is not the case for AirPods 3 set to come out in 2020. It looks like they are completely redesigning the wireless headphones to make them noise canceling. That’s my biggest complaint about AirPods is that they let a lot of outside noise in. They will also be water resistant and have a smaller charging case. Based on a patent Apple filed they may be able to be controlled with swipe gestures too. We know all of this because there have been a couple of leaks of the product. In a beta version of the iOS 13.2 people have seen, they noticed in the updated ‘Settings’ app it shows a graphic of the in ear wireless headphones. Also, Amazon accidentally listed a product prematurely that are silicone protective coverings for AirPods 3.
-AR Smart Glasses
Apple had always been a big fan of Augmented Reality or just AR for short. They incorporated the technology in their latest iPhones and iPads, so it comes with no surprise that they have been working on AR smart glasses these last few years. Apple’s AR smart glasses will allow the user to see information on top of the real world. So, you could be driving in your car and Apple Maps could be showing you where to go with graphics overlaid on the street. Google tried to corner the market with their AR headsets called Google Glass but they were discontinued because of poor sales. Also, people who wore them were nicknamed “Glassholes.” People didn’t like Google Glass because their design stuck out like a sore thumb. People were also paranoid that its users were secretly recording them so they got banned by several businesses and restaurants in San Francisco. So with this information Apple can’t afford to get the design wrong. It’s reported that Apple will be working with third parties (people who design eyewear) to make the headsets as ‘natural looking’ as possible. No one knows for sure what exactly these smart glasses will look like but they are expected to come out in the first half of 2020.
Beyond 2020
-Apple Car
Way back in 2014, Apple started working on what they called “Project Titan,” which was around 1,000 employees working in a secret location on a self-driving electric car. Apparently, Apple was offering Tesla employees raises to come work on their vehicle. I’m sure this ticked off Elon. But by 2016, with a lot of problems arising the car project, it was shelved and Apple laid off the secret project’s employees. A few years later, it was confirmed that they changed the project to creating an Apple self-driving system to be installed in vehicles belonging to a partnered car manufacturer. In 2017, Apple was given a permit to test their self driving cars on public roads by the state of California. These Lexus SUV’s Apple has been using have been spotted by the public. Apple is working on making their car’s sensors compact and not noticeable. However, the reliable Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has also said that Apple is still working on a physical car that could come out between 2023 and 2025.
