Bullet for My Valentine
Formed in 1998, Bullet For My Valentine is a Welsh heavy metal band from Bridgend, Wales. Their debut album The Poison was released in 2005 on Valentine’s Day because of their name. Before the album dropped the band put the single “Tears Don’t Fall” on their MySpace page and it quickly became immensely popular. The album went certified gold and entered the US Billboard 200 at number 128. The band then toured the US with Rob Zombie. They also marketed their second album Scream Aim Fire via Myspace and it peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard 200.
Hollywood Undead
Formed in 2005, Hollywood Undead is an American rap group from Los Angeles, California. They got their start by a bunch of friends who wrote and produced one song and put it on MySpace titled “Hollywood” (later renamed “the Kids”). The song went viral and they decided to form a band. They were signed onto MySpace Records but left the label because of issues of censorship. They found another label and released their debut album Swan Songs in 2008. The record sold 21,000 copies in its first week and reached number 22 on the Billboard 200.
From First To Last
From First to Last is a post hardcore band from LA. Formed in 1999, the band used MySpace to upload all of their songs and EP’s to grow a following. They even found one of their lead vocalist through messaging him through the platform. His name is Sonny Moore. Some of you also know him as the EDM giant Skrillex. Moore left the band in 2007 to pursue his EDM music but rejoined the band in 2017. They are currently working on their sixth album right now.
Owl City
It sounds like a band name but Owl City is just one dude named Adam Young. He uploaded all of his demos onto MySpace while he lived in his parents basement. It paid off for him because he got a juicy record deal from Republic Records after all of his hard work. HIs song “Fireflies” launched him into stardom as it went platinum six times over.
Panic! At the Disco
Hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, Panic! At the Disco is a rock band founded in 2004. From day one they started putting their music on MySpace. They also used MySpace to find a new keyboardist. After awhile of uploading their early demos on MySpace they started gaining a following. The band sent a message to Fall Out Boy’s bassist Pete Wentz and he was so impressed that he signed them to his label. In 2005, they put out their debut album A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out and it reached number 13 on the Billboard 200. They have been active ever since, touring the world and so far producing six studio albums.
Sean Kingston
After he posted some of his songs on MySpace, Sean Kingston was signed to producer J.R.Rotem's Beluga Heights record label. At first Kingston’s style was traditional rap but Rotem convinced him to be more melodic. And just a few months later Sean Kingston topped both the United States and the United Kingdom charts with his breakout smash hit 'Beautiful Girls'. Since then, Kingston has had many singles topping the charts around the world like “Take You There”, “Fire Burning” and “Beat It” featuring Chris Brown.
Calvin Harris
Adam Wiles Calvin Harris is a Scottish DJ. Harris moved to London to pursue his musical dreams. Unfortunately though he was forced to move back home due to being broke. He then turned to MySpace and began uploading his recordings. It worked out tremendously because just a few short years later Calvin was signing deals with a record company, management, and even a publisher. Calvin Harris has risen to become one of the world's highest-paid DJ since 2006. He has worked with huge musicians like Rihanna, Kylie, Florence and Ellie Goulding. He also headlines festivals all over the world with his own act. He even has had a modeling contract with Armiani underwear.
