"Gorilla Glue Girl" Tessica’s $23,000 GoFundMe is Under Investigation
Remember Tessica, the TikToker who went to the emergency room after putting Gorilla Glue in her hair?
Well, she raised over $23,000 on GoFundMe after her story went viral.
The trouble is, she then received medical help for free from Dr. Michael Obeng, director of MiKO Plastic Surgery. The treatment would normally cost more than $12,000.
Now that Tessica no longer has a need for the charity raised for her surgery, GoFundMe is investigating her and whether to release the funds.
“They won’t even release it to me because that many people have called and said it was a fraudulent account,” said Brown. “Every time you look at it it says it’s under investigation.”
Brown says she wants to donate the money to charity.
“I’m like we can donate to Dr. Obeng… and the rest of that I’m going to donate it to three families in St. Bernard Parish,” Brown said. “That’s going to be pretty upsetting because who are y’all to say, you know, this was a fraudulent account?”
A GoFundMe spokesperson stated they “are in touch” with Brown and “working with her on the withdrawal of funds.”
“Prior to the withdrawal, she must clearly state on the campaign page how she intends to use the funds,” the GoFundMe spokesperson said.
Brown’s GoFundMe does not say anything about her new, charitable plans.
Should Tessica still get the money? Is she really going to donate it to a worthy cause? Should GoFundMe be holding on to donations like this?
