Best Celebrity Mustaches
Freddie Mercury
Singer, Songwriter
Chevron Mustache
Freddie Mercury was the lead singer and songwriter for the iconic British rock band, Queen. He was known for his incredible 4 octave singing voice and flamboyant stage persona. To many people he is considered one of the greatest rock and roll singers of all time. His musical style and influence pioneered what’s now known as arena rock and pop rock. Unfortunately, Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS in 1987 and died in 1991. Ten years later he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Queen still tours today, under the name Queen +, with singers Paul Rogers and Adam Lambert.
A lot of Freddie’s fame came from his energy and his look. He sported what’s known as the “Chrevron mustache.” A Chevron mustache is a thick mustache that covers just above the upper lip and doesn’t curl up or down. It’s thick but not bushy or wiry. It’s clean and maintained. It’s a popular style because it looks very masculine, charming and is very easy to upkeep. Freddie’s Chevron mustache was part of his signature look and he helped popularize it during the 1970’s greatly. It was a big part of men’s fashion back then and Freddie helped pioneer that. Though today it is making a comeback.
Nick Offerman
Actor, Comedian
Walrus Mustache
Nick Offerman is a 49 year old Actor and Comedian who is best known for his role as the character Ron Swanson in the sitcom Parks and Recreation. He also acted in the hit tv series Fargo for which he won a Critic’s Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor. Offerman began working in the entertainment business as a fight choreographer and a master carpenter.
Since Offerman is a carpenter by trade as well as an entertainer, it’s no surprise why he sports such a manly mustache. His mustache style of choice is called the Walrus mustache. It’s very similar to the Chevron mustache but they tend to be a little longer, more bushy, wiry, but does not curl. The Walrus goes for that “rugged mountain man look,” where you’ve been surviving in the woods for weeks, doing man stuff, so you haven’t had the time to trim your mustache like a city-boy.
Clark Gable
Actor
Pencil Mustache
of Hollywood” during his career. He played in more than 60 roles in a wide variety of films in every genre. He career spanned more than 30 years. He is perhaps best known for playing the lead in Gone With the Wind. He began as an extra in silent films then worked his way up to making millions of dollars. Gable died in 1960, at 59 years old.
Joan Crawford, who was his on-again-off-again lover, once said that Gable was the “most masculine man” she had ever known. That’s probably why Gable chose the Pencil mustache as his choice of facial hair. It’s called the Pencil mustache because of how thin it is. It’s always clean and clipped and a large gap is left in-between the nose and the mustache. He didn’t need a thick mustache to be masculine, he just was. He was the freaking king of Hollywood, end of story.
Will Farrell
Actor, Comedian
Chevron Mustache
Will Farrell became nationally known when he was casted as an actor on the iconic sketch show, Saturday Night Live in the mid-90’s. Before he appeared on the show, it had declined in popularity and greatly needed fresh new cast members to revitalize it. That’s exactly what happened and Farrell made a name for himself with his talent, humor and impersonations, especially George W. Bush. Farrell was on the show for 7 years before leaving in 2002 to pursue a movie career.
Fast forward 17 years later and Will Farrell is one of the funniest actors in Hollywood today. He has had multiple iconic roles in films that defined both the 2000’s and the 2010’s; Old School, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, Step Brothers, Elf and one of his best, Anchorman. Will Farrell’s Ron Burgundy is some of the funniest acting in all of film history. So much of Burgundy’s character is his look, that Chevron mustache is so American 1970’s it’s frightening. Most people think that Farrell’s mustache in that role was fake but it wasn’t. Farrell grew it in so thick and luscious people thought it couldn’t be real. Farrell should not have shaved it, it looks great on him.
Burt Reynolds
Actor
Chevron Mustache
Burt Reynolds was a legendary film actor, director and producer. He rose to prominence by acting in TV shows throughout the 1960’s. He became an A-list Hollywood actor after playing one of the leads in the iconic film, Deliverance. He was then in several box-office hit movies during the 70’s through the early 80’s. He went back to tv in the 80’s and 90’s but returned to film in the late 90’s and was nominated for an Oscar for his role in, Boogie Nights.
Burt Reynolds is the reason why men started growing thick mustaches in the 70’s. Before it was much more in fashion to have a thin mustache, because the Hollywood stars of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s had them. Reynolds only started growing a mustache after he met the great actor Marlon Brando, who criticized him saying he was only popular because he looked like him. Reynolds said he didn’t shave the next morning and grew out a Chevron mustache to not look like Brando. And because he did so, he influenced a whole generation of men growing mustaches to imitate him.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2005 by Sylvester Stallone. During and after his wrestling career, Hulk also had a great acting career as well, beginning with being the bad guy in Rocky III.
Hulk Hogan is one badass of a dude. He’s 6 foot 7 inches tall and weighs 300 pounds. He’s all attitude. Which is why his mustache style is the Horseshoe mustache. The Horseshoe mustache or otherwise known as the Biker’s mustache is a full mustache with vertical extensions grown on the corners of the lips and down the sides to the jawline. It resembles an upside-down U, like the shape of a horseshoe. The facial hair grown down the sides are known as “pipes.” Hulk Hogan rides motorcycles in real life so it make sense why he dresses like one too.
